The 2012 Ford Focus Electric will have a solar rooftop optionLast winter, I got the opportunity to attend the North American Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, as a guest of Ford Motor Company.   Among the numerous fuel efficient vehicles, the showroom included many future electric cars.  Many are merely prototypes, but a few – like the all electric Ford Focus – are actually coming to roadways in the near future.

The 2012 Ford Focus Electric will be available for purchase or leasing in early 2012.  Ford is teaming up with solar power company SunPower to “take solar mainstream,” according to Tom Werner, SunPower CEO.  And how?

The all electric Ford Focus will include an option for a 2.5 kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar power system for consumers purchasing the vehicle at a Ford dealership.  The solar power generator can be either bought for $10,000 or leased.  The SunPower generator can charge up the electric Ford Focus, giving the vehicle an additional 1,000 miles per month, and may even have additional energy to power installed appliances.

If you are in the market for an Electric Ford Focus, you’ll probably want a home-based electric vehicle charging station, as well (240-volts).  Best Buy will be selling these to help you quickly and efficiently charge your EV.  In the meantime, the cost for the all Electric Ford Focus (with or without the optional rooftop solar power system) is not yet set.  Stay tuned and we’ll soon find out the price point for this green vehicle.

Hey, I did not know in 2012 Ford Focus Electric will be available for leasing or purchasing! I guess this is a good news for all the solar epc companies and it will encourage them to manufacture cheap photovoltaic solar modules in the long run. My brother was looking for a similar post like this, I’m going to share this with him.
