T-minus 6 days and counting to the new Obama Administration. What predictions will be made about the future of solar energy in America? Will we truly have “Change We Can Believe In” with respect to alternative energy?
Renewable energy issues permeate everything these days. I listened to a portion of the Senate Confirmation hearings yesterday for proposed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. One of the questions posed to her early on in the day had to do with foreign policy and renewable energy. People are not just concerned about global warming, they are worried about the potential influence of Middle Eastern countries that hold the keys to most of the world’s oil supplies.
This is why it is so critical we gain energy independence.
How many more wars will we have to fight in order to fuel our SUVs? What if we converted to electric cars that are powered by solar energy instead of dirty coal?
What if?
Obama has promised the creation of thousands of “green collar” jobs. That is, jobs in the renewable energy industry – from solar panel installers, to wind turbine engineers. The hope is that the economy will be stimulated out of the recession in part by the construction of necessary infrastructure. Not only roads and bridges, but also improvement and standardization of the national electrical grid, to bring solar generated electricity to “grid parity” with coal-based electricity.
Maybe I’m too optimistic for my own good. I believe that solar energy has a bright new future, come January 20.
What do you think?
