Solar Training Program in Richmond, California

Solar Training Program in Richmond, California

As solar energy takes off as a viable and affordable renewable energy resource, green jobs are sprouting up for solar installers.  Yet specialized training is required for prospective employees.  Fortunately, if you live in Richmond, California, you could take part in a solar job training program offered by groSolar and One Block Off the Grid (1BOG).

Through a job training partnership called Solar Richmond, people wishing to learn the solar installation trade can learn from expert installers in a 14-week program, which includes 7 weeks of pre-apprenticeship construction and 3 weeks of energy efficiency training.

After attending construction, energy efficiency and solar training programs, participants have the added benefit of being placed in a paid, temporary workforce immediately following completion of the program.  Its a win-win for both sides: the graduates get hands-on experience that will set them apart from other job candidates in the future, and the trainers receive inexpensive labor.

The cost of the participant’s wages are shared between groSolar, 1BOG and the purchaser of the solar array to be installed.  That can vary from $50-150 for each party.  Aside from the bargain for installation work, the program is already credited in helping develop a skilled green job workforce in the solar industry.

With 2010 poised to be a break-out year for solar energy, programs like Solar Richmond are expected to spread across the U.S.  In California alone, the success of the solar job training program is evident.  Over the past 2 years, many graduates from Solar Richmond have gone on to careers in solar installation.

The unique skills they possess should serve them well!
