The Oasis Shelter Bench
At our related solar energy blog, we’ve told you about solar-powered bus shelters and solar-powered park benches. Now, comes a really cool invention to bring solar power to your urban park. The Oasis Shelter Bench, created by Baita Design.
The solar-powered invention combines renewable energy with urban park elements. As shown in the rendering above, a canopy covered with solar panels provides shelter for a bench at which you can rest, park your bicycle or even recharge your cell phone. It also provides the power for lighting. Any excess solar electricity generated by the Oasis Shelter Bench is fed back into the grid.
Bicycle racks are placed at one end of the Oasis solar shelter, with an aluminum picnic table in the center allowing space for people to prepare and eat lunch, read the newspaper or even plug in their laptop computer, camera, cell phone and more. If the Oasis is constructed in a WiFi hotspot, you’ll even be able to get some work done.
On less sunny days, the Oasis Shelter Bench will still have power, thanks to a built-in generator.

We think its exciting that design firms like Batia Design are creating innovative and practical solar powered inventions like the Oasis Shelter Bench. As we noted above, this is the most recent in a series of creations that will bring solar power to your urban parks – whether with shelters, benches, or just simply lighting.
For a relatively small investment, municipalities will be able to bring people to their open spaces to gather together, enjoy the outdoors, and even take pride in the energy conservation measures taking place in their city!
We’ll keep you posted on when the Oasis Shelter Bench is ready for installation in your hometown…. if your hometown is willing to bring solar power to your urban park!
