Are you a fan of the Jetsons? I used to love that cartoon growing up, especially Rosie, the robotic maid. I’ve gotta get one of those! Can you imagine how much easier life would be to have a robot bringing you lunch, doing your dishes and even laundry (especially the folding and putting away)! Turns out that the 1962-63 animated series was ahead of its time. The future is now here!
Solar-powered robots will soon take over the world! More and more personal service robots are being created each year. Instead of electricity, they run on solar energy. Did you know that in 2007, there were 3.4 million “live” personal service robots? Heck, they could form a pretty big metropolis if all those robots got together. I sure hope that they are given good powers. Remember what I said about them taking over the world….
Recently, computer science graduates from Louisiana State University created “Agbot,” a programmable solar-powered robot. This amazing robot can do anything for which you program it, from mowing your lawn to scrubbing toilets. Simply replace the module and upload appropriate software for the task you wish Agbot to complete. Simple as that! Agbot runs continuously for 4 hours, at speeds up to 6 miles per hour, powered by solar panels on its head.
Agbot was “born” after 18 months of gestation… I mean… research by the computer science team. He has GPS technology and Bluetooth connectivity, providing Agbot with eyes and ears to navigate without colliding ino things. Of course, Agbot is a solar-powered robot, receiving energy from a solar panel that rests on top of its head. No battery or electrical cord to worry about!
Wish you could get your hands on one of these cool gadgets? Well, the team is hoping to mass produce similar solar-powered robots to give Agbot thousands and thousands of brothers and sisters in the near future. They plan on selling them to consumers at a minimal cost – to be determined.
I wonder what all those robots will look like…..?
Seriously, don’t you think that it sounds like robots will take over the world? No? Well, as long as they can take over my laundry, I am more than happy to welcome them into my home.
