Hot new tech gadget for people who want to look ultra cool generating solar power. Solar powered sunglasses! This week, designers announced “SIG” sunglasses, also known as self-energy converting sunglasses. Of all the solar gadgets, this one especially makes sense to me. After all…. where do you wear sunglasses? In the sunshine!
The lenses include dye-solar cells that convert sunlight to solar energy that can be used to power iPods and other small devices. The designers, Hyun-Joong Kim and Kwang-Seok Jeong claim that the solar powered sunglasses use:
“Cheap organic dye [used with] nano technology [providing] cheap but high energy efficiency.”
The bad news is that the solar powered sunglasses are not available yet – so take them off your list to Santa. Although the launch date is not announced (nor the price), I’m willing to bet a day at the beach that these lenses will be hitting store shelves before summer!
